Simon Goddek, PhD student at the University of Iceland has been working at Solheimar developing an aquaponics system. He held a presentation about aquaponics systems and their possibilities for sustainable food production. As known Solheimar emphasizes organic production and closed nutrient loops – optimizing the use of all resources in an economic and environmentally sound way.

Aquaponics unit setup at the Iceland Ocean Cluster
An aquaponics unit was set up at the Iceland Ocean Cluster before the grand opening of phase II Friday January 17th. The visitors at the opening enjoyed to see the concept of aquaponics and several interested persons have been in contact for further information about the system.
Aquaponic seminar in Iceland on March 25th
The EcoPonics group will participate in an Aquaponics seminar to be held at the ecovillage Solheimar in Iceland on March 25th 2014. The one-day seminar offers many interesting presentations on fish welfare, plant choices, monitoring and controlling a healthy environment, certification of production and how to build a system. Presentations will be held by experts from Spain, Denmark, Norway, Iceland and Netherlands. The seminar is open for all interested parties, but limited up to 50 participants. Registration is needed through aquaponics@aquaponics.is before March 1st. The programme will be presented by February 1st.
