				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a title="EU Aquaponics Hub website" href="https://euaquaponicshub.com/" target="_blank"><img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-602" alt="conference_2016_03_22" src="http://aquaponics.is/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/ponnod-300x168.jpg" width="300" height="168" />The COST Action FA1305 EU Aquaponics Hub</a> held the international conference <em>Aquaponics &#8211; Research matter</em> on March 22nd 2016. The conference was successfully organized by the University of Ljubljana with around 150 participants from more than 20 countries. The management group and working groups of the COST Action had meetings on March 23rd discussing the progress so far and next steps. Among decisions was to join forces of European Aquaponics SMEs establishing the Association of Commercial Aquaponics Companies. On March 24th the group visited a greenhouse and fish farm in Slovenia and ending the trip at Ponnods Aquaponics Farm.</p>

STSMs facilitate scientists going to an institution or laboratory in another country to foster collaboration, to learn a new technique or to take measurements using instruments and/or methods not available in their own institution/laboratory. Early Stage Researchers (up to 8 years after award of a PhD) will be given priority. The last application deadline for the 2015-2016 open call is <strong>18 December 2015</strong> for STSMs to be completed by the end of April 2016</p>

<p>The training school will be delivered by Prof. Haïssam Jijakli (Plant Pathology and Urban Agriculture, University of Liège, Belgium), Prof. Amit Gross (Environmental Hydrology &amp; Microbiology, Zuckerberg Institute for Water Research, Israel), Dr. Peter Dapprich (Plant Pathology, South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences, Germany) and Prof. Sébastien Massart (Plant Pathology and Metagenomics, University of Liège, Belgium. The lectures and practical classes will be held mainly at Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech Faculty, University of Liège where the microbiology laboratory, PAFF BOX (Plant and Fishing Farming Container) and a small RAS system are located.</p>

The tilapia, salads, tomatoes, okra and other products from the pilot unit were grilled at site by the group &#8211; Excellent Slow Food.</p>
<p><a href="http://aquaponics.is/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Iceland-COST-52.jpg"><img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-566" alt="Iceland COST (52)" src="http://aquaponics.is/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Iceland-COST-52-300x200.jpg" width="300" height="200" /></a>The group also visited Fridheimar, a greenhouse producer that has opened the doors to tourists offering delicious tomato soup and telling the 20 years story of the company. Moreover, the trainees got to see and learn about the sustainable energy in Iceland based on geothermal and hydro power and about the nature and story. The last night of the course the sky opened an extraordinary aurora borealis show as a special treat to us after a great weeks work.</p>
