Until now our systems have been built on grow-beds and RAFT – but we like to show an NFT-system as well so this is built for our visitors.

The strawberry plants are now growing and the fruits will be available soon.

The mint and basil plants are growing far best in our systems.

The fish is growing well in the systems.

Finally we had some minutes to take care of the office system. It has developed into a jungle the last month. We found some very interesting fruits in the jungle together with huge basil plants.

Three university students joined our team today. They have background in biology, aquaculture and agriculture.

The aquaponics seminar at Solheimar was very successful. The participants came from aquaculture, horticulture, administration, universities and also hobbyist working with hydroponics and even small aquaponics systems were present at Solheimar.  Moreover, many volunteers and employees at Solheimar participated.  Thanks to all for interesting presentations and fruitful discussions!

Simon Goddek, PhD student at the University of Iceland has been working at Solheimar developing an aquaponics system. He held a presentation about aquaponics systems and their possibilities for sustainable food production. As known Solheimar emphasizes organic production and closed nutrient loops – optimizing the use of all resources in an economic and environmentally sound way.
